Bir sömürgeci, genellikle gelişmemiş bir gezegenin bir yerleşimcisiydi. Bazı sömürgeciler daha iyi bir hayatın peşinden koşarken diğerleri ise Galaktik İmparatorluk veya bir suç unsurundan kaçıyordu. Gruplar bazen dini veya siyasi zulümden kaçmak için sömürgeler oluşturuyordu.
